Bay Street Players is pleased to welcome Lake/Marion Ballet Company to the State Theatre this holiday season for a special presentation of The Nutcracker from December 15–17, 2023.
In this canon of beloved Christmas stories, a young girl, Clara, receives a nutcracker soldier as a gift from her Uncle. With jealousy, Clara’s brother Fritz fights with her over the toy, eventually breaking it. Their uncle uses magic to repair her nutcracker, leaving it in the living room as Clara heads off to bed. She later returns to check on her doll and discovers a battle had ensued between the toys that have miraculously come to life and a mischief of mice, led by the evil Mouse King.
The toys are victorious against the mice when Clara intercedes, hitting the Mouse King with her ballet slipper. The Nutcracker miraculously transforms into a prince and takes Clara on a journey to the magical world of the Confituremburg, the Land of Sweets, where they meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her cavalier, Prince Coqueluche. In thanks to Clara for saving the Nutcracker-Prince, a celebration of dancing sweets and flowers is held and Clara and the Nutcracker are crowned as the new King and Queen of Confituremburg.
With a timeless, soaring score by Pyoty Ilyich Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker continues to delight families each holiday season.
This production of The Nutcracker is led by Lake/Marion Ballet Company’s Artistic Director, Chester Anderson and is a limited engagement of just 3 performances.
