AVAILABLE ROLES:
We are seeking strong actors, singers, and dancers to portray the following principal, ensemble, and understudy roles*.

*All understudies are guaranteed a minimum of TWO performances. Principal roles will be required to learn their understudy’s ensemble track.

**This production features characters that we believe call for an intentional and authentic approach to casting. We HIGHLY encourage performers of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, body types and abilities to audition.

Mark Cohen
*Jewish/ Jewish-American Actor Preferred
Filmmaker and video artist. Knee deep in his own soul-searching, Mark is the typical young artist. He and Roger are roommates in the loft. A bit of a nerd.

Roger Davis
A struggling musician and former drug addict. He is reminiscent of Kurt Cobain. Roommates with Mark in the loft and battles with being HIV-positive. It is preferred that the actor portraying Roger knows how to play guitar. You may submit a 1-minute demonstration and upload under “supplemental materials.”

Tom Collins

A computer genius and liberal professor. He is a nurturer with a smooth and relaxed disposition. Used to be a roommate in the loft and is HIV-positive.

Benjamin Coffin III

The landlord of Mark and Roger’s apartment building. A former roommate in the loft, Benny traded in his personal morals for power and wealth.

Joanne Jefferson

A public interest lawyer and headstrong lesbian. She is smart and purposeful in all her decisions. Carries on a tumultuous relationship with Maureen.

Angel Dumott Schunard

The eccentric HIV-positive street drummer. A drag queen with an incredible gift of dance and a magnetic personality who becomes Tom’s lover. If you have prior percussionist or drag performance experience, you may submit a short 1-minute demonstration under “supplemental materials”.

An HIV-positive stripper with drug addictions. Slender and sickly, she conceals it all at her job in the local strip club. She lives in the same building as the loft.

An unpredictably zany performance artist. Maureen oozes sexuality and used to live in the loft. She has recently dumped Mark for Joanne.

Dance Troupe
Seeking an ensemble of strong dancers to portray various movement-focused roles throughout the show. Please submit a 1-2 minute video demonstrating your movement ability. This may be a new routine or a clip from a previous performance. Please also submit a 16-32 bar cut of a song in the style of the show. Featured Soloists/Ensemble
Please submit one song of your choice and your choice of one of the two provided audition cuts.

The ensemble is highly featured throughout the show, and includes:
– Homeless Carolers: Appear throughout the show sarcastically singing Christmas carols.
– Mrs. Cohen: Mark’s stereotypical Jewish mother. Her voicemail messages are the basis for the songs Voicemail #1, Voicemail #3, and Voicemail #5.
– Alexi Darling: Producer of Buzzline who tries to employ Mark. Sings Voicemail #3 and Voicemail #4.
– Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson: Wealthy parents of Joanne. They leave her Voicemail #2 Mr. Jefferson sings in Voicemail #5.
– Mrs. Davis: Roger’s confused mother featured in Voicemail #5.
– Mrs. Marquez: Mimi’s Spanish‐speaking mother featured in Voicemail #5.
– Mr. Grey: Benny’s father-in‐law who wants to buy out the lot.
– The Man: Local drug dealer whom Mimi buys from and Roger used to buy from.
– Life Support Group: Paul (The man in charge of the Life Support group), Gordon, Steve, Ali, Pam, Sue
– Squeegee Man: Homeless person who chants “Honest living!” over and over.
– Blanket Woman: Homeless woman with solo lashing out after being filmed by Mark.
– Waiter: Waits on the cast and has solo lines in La Vie Boheme.
– Pastor: Lines/solos during Angel’s funeral.
– Vendors with solos in Christmas Bells.
– Police Officers: Group of law enforcement officers that interact with the ensemble and main characters through various scenes.
